YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund?

So I just found out today that I'm a winner of the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund!! (http://fashionscholarshipfund.org/) It's a crazy huge awesome deal for me and I'm currently dying of excitement and happiness. I get to go to this really super fancy shmancy gala in January in NYC at the Waldorf-Astoria, and I was wondering if anyone in the community might also be in attendance? Either as winners or for any other reason? It might be a long shot but if anyone is, we should try to get together to hang out before/during/after the event at the hotel!! Let me know!!

For everyone else, talk about times you won a crazy cool scholarships and how awesome it was and how you felt like the biggest baller of all time. Or, since I applied for the same scholarship and DIDN'T win last year, talk about applying to scholarships and not winning and how much it sucked!

Basic Space

I hope this post isn't too big, hahah.

I love the fabric at the back, I used a fabric with photographs of the hubble telescope. My technical drawings were scanned, so the quality is a bit fucked up /:

Introduction =3

Name: Beatrix.C
Occupation: High School Student
Place of Work/University: Don't Work currently ^^;

Why you want to be a designer: It's one of the top 3 occupations I'd want to go into when I get older. I've been sketching designs for various things since I was a kid. There's just something about it that I just love,even if the design I've made is just a self-made design on the back of a t-shirt =3
I'd love to really get into fashion designing when I get older,maybe sell my clothing online and give people a little break from mainstream clothing -^^-

Comments or thoughts about fashion design: As I said,I really hope to get more into fashion,since up until now I haven't had the chance to look into it until now.
But I always wonder,why make designs/dresses that no one could ever wear besides in a fashion show? The designs are cool every once in a while but I always wonder why its done in nearly every show I've seen :I

To finish,I'm 16 years old (Turning 17 on the 7th of June).
I hope to meet some of you here in the group and I hope I can post some designs when summer vacation starts =D
Thanks for having me in the group! >3

Just found this:

"FASHION DESIGN GARMENTS WANTED TO BUY.

Whether you are a professional, student or amateur designer, we are looking for your innovative garments, samples, pieces that you the designer are wishing to sell. We are Sydney retailers of fashion interested in supporting up-and-coming designers.

Selling your creations is a great way to gauge the market popularity of your product & to create further awareness of your brand. Whether you already have your own label or not, we aim to sell your work. We buy from you, promoting your name & helping you to earn extra income from your work.

We are also involved in local fashion parades for new designers which give exposure & experience to everyone involved.

All you need is good quality work & on average, a range of at least six new individual pieces per month that we feel are right for our collection. We also need designers who want to progress within this field & that are interested in ongoing sales from month to month.

Expressions of interest are all welcome. Please email us with your enquiries or call to discuss further at anytime.

Not sure how legit it is. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

a lizzard skirt made of an umbrella :D

XDDD yeah, one of my favourite umbrellas broke and I didn't wanna throw it away because of the cute lizzard-picture in it. I thought about what the hell am I supposed to do with it, but after a while I got a brain strom: I'll make a skirt of it!! And so I did 8D

So a few of my classmates and I put together a "rogue" senior show since the one the school put on was rather pathetic. We finally got the official video for it. Check it out!

Has anyone done their own runway show? I would like to do a solo show but I'm not sure how to work that out.

Why you want to be a designer: I'm not even sure if I still want to be designer at this moment. I think after 4 years of fashion school I've just gotten a bit jaded about the process and the industry. I'm also pretty technical, and a lot of my interest lies in innovative pattermaking techniques and combining them with technology. I think somewhere down the road I will probably start my own line, but probably not until I've had substantial experience.

Comments or thoughts about fashion design: I think a lot of people go into it not expecting how much work it really is, and how incredibly unglamorous this industry is. There is a small percentage of fashion that is still regarded as art, but for the most part it's just a massive business, and at the end of the day, money still needs to be made. Also I think there's a misconception that becoming a designer is the end-all, be-all of being in fashion. But that's all I have to say on that today.

introducing myself o_O

I posted a picture of the shirt I designed and made, and I read more about this community and the user info said that it would be nice if the members introduced themselves. so, here's my introduction :D

This is a really interesting article about some up-and-coming designers who were chosen at the Festival de Hyères 2011, an annual fashion festival held by the French Mediterranean seaside. The link has a lot of great pictures as well as the concepts behind the designer's garments!
